OPENING OF THE LOCH SPORT SKATE PARK

6 April 2016

Residents and visitors to Loch Sport are now perfecting their finest skate board tricks at the town’s new skate park, which was officially opened today by the Member for Eastern Victoria, Harriet Shing.

Building a skate park has been a long-standing priority for the community, who managed to raise $10,000 through local fund-raising activities to put towards the project.

The Andrews Labor Government provided $80,000 towards the construction of the skate park, with Wellington Shire Council providing the remaining $94,000.

Wellington Shire Council worked with local young people in the design process to ensure the skate park’s location would suit its users.

The Skate Park, which is close to existing play spaces and public infrastructure, provides a fantastic recreational facility for the local community, as well as visitors to the area during holiday periods. With Loch Sport situated between the Gippsland Lakes and the 90 Mile Beach, the area is visited by many who come to enjoy the National Parks and beaches that the region has to offer.

The Loch Sport Skate Park is another example of the Andrews Government working collaboratively with community and council to deliver better infrastructure to benefit regional Victorians.
