GIVING MIRBOO NORTH PLAYERS THE BEST FACILITIES

Monday 2 May 2016

Member for Eastern Victoria, Harriet Shing, on Saturday unveiled a major redevelopment of Mirboo North’s Walter J Tuck Recreation Reserve.

Ms Shing said the new lights and upgraded courts would give the thriving home clubs the base they deserve – and new opportunities to attract more members and grow.

Saturday marked the big battle between the Mirboo Tigers and arch rival Trafalgar, and the Tigers now have the state-of-the-art courts they can be proud of.

The Victorian Government’s $116,000 funding package means netballers will no longer have to take to dangerous courts, where water pooled above the surface and created hazards for players.

New soccer pitch lighting will allow Mirboo North United to stage more training sessions, and that means the club can add to its 88-strong player base. It’s good news for cricketers too, who will be able to test their skills under lights.

The Labor Government promised all regional Victorian communities the best sport and recreation facilities, and that’s what we’re delivering.

Our $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is helping regional clubs update tired grounds and build the facilities they need, while the Country Football Netball Club assists hard-working clubs install lights, build change rooms or complete ground and court resurfacing works.

The project was funded in partnership with the South Gippsland Shire Council, the Walter J Tuck Recreation Reserve Committee of Management and the community.
