GETTING THE PLANNING RIGHT IN WONTHAGGI TO BOOST JOBS AND MAKE COMMUNITIES STRONGER

Tuesday, 21 November 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is getting the planning right at Wonthaggi to boost jobs, make homes more affordable and protect local character.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today announced a $100,000 Streamlining for Growth grant to assist the Bass Coast Shire Council develop an activity centre plan.

As communities grow, it’s critical we put proper plans in place so that they feature the schools, parks, community services and open space that all Victorians deserve.

Wonthaggi is a thriving regional centre, and the activity centre plan will pave the way for a revitalisation of the town centre, and better connect neighbourhoods.

It’s all about driving local jobs, boosting the local economy and encouraging more tourism and investment.

There’s no place to live like regional Victoria. The Labor Government is making record investments in schools, hospitals and transport, giving locals the services they need.

We recently launched the Ready When You Are campaign to encourage more people to make the move to regional Victoria. We’re making it easier for young Victorians to buy their first home there, by doubling the First Home Owner Grant to $20,000 in the regions.

Regional Victorian businesses have received a shot in the arm too, thanks to a 25 per cent cut to payroll tax. It’s expected up to 4,000 regional businesses will be eligible for the exemption, with more than 1,000 of those enjoying the lowest payroll tax in the country.

The Labor Government’s Streamlining for Growth grants are being delivered by the Victorian Planning Authority. They’re all about cutting red tape and boosting council resources to encourage development and make our communities as liveable as ever.

In total, more than $20 million is being invested in the program over four years.
