COMMUNITY FEEDBACK GUIDES STRATFORD ROAD DESIGN

Friday, 10 November 2017

Feedback from the Stratford community has been incorporated into designs for upgrading Princes Highway East, which will provide a safer journey for motorists travelling through the town.

VicRoads held a community information session in September to seek input and ideas for how Princes Highway East through Stratford could be made safer.

Common suggestions included installing a roundabout at the McAlister Street/Princes Highway intersection and lowering the speed limit through the town.

VicRoads has used this feedback to develop designs for Princes Highway East, which will be presented to the community at a further information session at Stratford Mechanics Hall on 14 November from 5pm – 7pm.

Upgrading this section of Princes Highway East is part of a $51.5 million project to improve road safety along 62 kilometres of the highway between Sale and Bairnsdale – one of Victoria’s top 20 highest risk roads.

Tragically, in the five years to 2015, five lives were lost and another 49 people were injured in road crashes on this stretch of road.

Quotes attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Harriet Shing:

“We’re proud to be investing in this important road upgrade, to ensure Stratford families and visitors driving through the town can get home safely.”

“Every life lost on our roads is tragic. The Victorian Government is committed to rolling out safety upgrades along Princes Highway East to prevent crashes – and save lives.”

Quotes attributable to VicRoads Director Safe System Road Infrastructure Program, Bryan Sherritt:

“We look forward to continuing to engage with the Stratford community on these important safety upgrades through the town.”

“The work we are doing on Princes Highway East between Sale and Bairnsdale will significantly reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths on this key Victorian route.”
