Vibrant and Sustainable Growth Ahead for Lake Narracan

The growth and potential in the Latrobe Valley took a huge step forward today, with an announcement from the Andrews Labor Government that will transform the Lake Narracan area into a vibrant hub for employment, housing and sustainable growth.

Member for Eastern Victoria, Harriet Shing, MP, today announced that Planning Minister, Richard Wynne has approved changes to the Latrobe Planning Scheme that implement a Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) to guide the development of a new residential community nestled between Lake Narracan, Moe and Newborough.

This PSP covers some 610 hectares and provides a vibrant blueprint for long-term development and investment, with land identified in the Plan expected to create approximately 3,700 new homes and 18 hectares of open space for sporting facilities and parks.

The plan will also provide direct access to the southern shore of the lake for new residents as well as existing residents of Moe and Newborough via new roads, pedestrian paths and cycling trails.  The plan includes improvements to the lake foreshore, including new parks, paths and environmental protection.

Minister Wynne and Ms Shing confirmed that the PSP was developed over several years in conjunction with the Latrobe City Council and the local community.  This will ensure that the existing character of the area is protected and enhanced through the protection of views to the lake, prominent high points and significant vegetation.

The plan will also establish more direct connections to Lake Narracan from Moe and Newborough, and provide improved access and facilities along the foreshore.

A Development Contributions Plan and Native Vegetation Precinct Plan has also been prepared for the area, ensuring provision are made for new infrastructure and services needed for future communities, including road networks, open space, native vegetation to be retained and protected, water management and community facilities.
