UPDATED TECH IMPROVING LEARNING IN CHIRNSIDE PARK

Monday, 28 October 2019

Children attending Chirnside Park Pre-School will have access to new technology to assist with their learning and development, thanks to $24,157 in funding from the Victorian Government’s Pick My Project initiative.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing MP visited the pre-school on behalf of Minister for Suburban Development Marlene Kairouz to learn more about how the pre-school students are utilising the latest technology for their learning.

Funding from the Pick My Project initiative has been used by the pre-school to purchase new iPads, iPods and smart screens to support the children’s information technology learning curriculum.

Information and communication technology are part of Chirnside Park Pre-School’s learning landscape of the future helping build children’s creative thinking and inquiry processes that are all required for life-long learning.

The curriculum will feature up-to-date and age appropriate information technology alongside traditional play-based learning experiences, allowing children the opportunity to expand their knowledge and explore the world of information technology.

Pick My Project is a Victorian Government first – a $30 million participatory budgeting initiative that puts decision making in the hands of Victorians.

Pick My Project has awarded funding to 237 successful project ideas state-wide, with funding allocated between the six metropolitan and nine regional partnership areas. The “21st Century Learners need 21st Century Technology” project is one of 25 successful projects from the Pick My Project initiative in the Eastern Metropolitan Region.

The region received more than $2.93 million in funding through the initiative, after more than 26,000 votes were cast across the region.
