Traralgon Greyhounds Get Fancy New Digs

Traralgon greyhound racing’s redeveloped home will open in style when some of the state’s top dogs dash into town for the 2015 Traralgon Cup.

The $6.2 million upgrade of Glenview Park is the first major improvement to the venue’s greyhound racing facilities since the Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club (TGRC) became a tenant in 1973.

The redevelopment, to be officially unveiled by Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing at the Traralgon Cup on Saturday 19 September, includes:
• A new standalone pavilion for greyhound racing, including seating for 160 spectators
• New presentation and parade areas
• Track lighting and irrigation
• A new finishing post and a maintenance shed

The Victorian Government contributed $1.2 million to the revamp through its Victorian Racing Industry Fund (VRIF), with Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) providing the remaining $5.02 million.

The Traralgon Cup is the biggest event on the Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club calendar, with $47,000 in prizemoney for the winner of the headline race.

To make it a memorable night, which will include live music and children’s activities, the Government has invested almost $24,500 from the VRIF Raceday Attraction Program (RAP), with GRV and TGRC allocating $15,500 and $9,500 respectively.

Victoria is the proud leader of Australian racing, generating more than $2.8 billion in economic activity and supporting more than 26,500 full time jobs.

The VRIF returns unclaimed wagering dividends and on-course wagering taxes back to the industry and allows the three racing codes, racing clubs and other key stakeholders to have a say in growing Victorian racing.

It funds projects and initiatives at tracks across Victoria, supporting jobs, improving animal and participant safety, increasing integrity measures and boosting the racing experience for racegoers.
