SHING VISITS BAIRNSDALE POLICE STATION

Tuesday 23 January 2018

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today visited officers at Bairnsdale Police Station as they prepare an upgrade to station facilities to give them a better working environment.

Part of a $36.8 million package of new and upgraded regional police stations funded by the Andrews Labor Government, an overhaul to the station air-conditioning will commence from late-February.

It is one of six refurbishments that are underway across the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland. Along with Bairnsdale, stations at Lakes Entrance, Maffra, Moe, Churchill and Warragul will be refurbished. These works will ensure that police in our region have the best facilities to do their important work.

Ms Shing also met with station staff to discuss local issues and to tour the station.

Police in East Gippsland have seen an 8.8% decrease in the offence rate in the latest release by the Crime Statistics Agency, with crimes against the person, drug offences, and property crime all seeing decreases.

Quotes attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing:

“Our police officers, public service staff, and visitors will be keeping cool at Bairnsdale Police Station.”

“Meanwhile offenders are feeling the heat of increased enforcement on our roads and in the community by police in the East Gippsland LGA, with an 8.8% decrease in the offence rate in the past year.”
