LOCAL CONTRACTOR GETS THE GREEN LIGHT

Thursday, 26th May 2017

The Andrews Labor Government has backed local company Electel to continue maintaining Gippsland’s traffic lights.

Electel has signed a two-year contract extension with VicRoads, taking the contract’s overall worth to $1.98 million.

The extension means the Traralgon-based company will retain two full-time local employees as well as continue to provide work for several sub-contractors.

Electel will continue to conduct regular inspections of traffic lights to ensure safety for drivers in the region.

They’ll also upgrade signals at five locations across Gippsland, including Lakes Entrance, Stratford and Morwell.

The works include replacing existing globes with LED globes that have a longer life, are more energy efficient and cost-effective.

Quotes attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria, Harriet Shing:

We’re supporting Gippsland jobs for Gippsland people – extending existing contracts where locals are already employed is just one way we can achieve that.”

“This will ensure the good work Electel has been doing in maintaining Gippsland’s traffic signals continues for another two years.”
