Kurnai College Hands on Learning students travelled to Melbourne’s Parliament House to join schools from across Victoria for the opening of a special showcase of their ingenious building projects on Tuesday 27 March.

The showcase in Queens Hall featured an impressive park bench and dog kennel built by the Kurnai Hands on Learning (HoL) team.

Kurnai students Jai, Khamis, James and Diamond also joined local MP Harriet Shing on stage to introduce a video about Hands on Learning at Kurnai College.

The students spoke eloquently and passionately about the skills they have developed in the program like leadership and teamwork and their respect for Hands on Learning Coordinator Michael Stubbe, and received a standing ovation from the audience of politicians and schools from across the State.

Hands on Learning (HoL) is a school-based education program supported by Save the Children Australia that runs in 70 schools across Victoria, including both the Morwell and Churchill campuses of Kurnai where the program is celebrating 10 years of operation.

“Hands on Learning is all about the power of authentic entrepreneurial learning and the impact of helping students who learn in diverse ways to discover their talents, experience success and change the way they think about school,” Save the Children CEO Paul Ronalds said.
