GIPPSLAND COMMEMORATES ANZAC DAY 2017

“Tuesday, 18th April 2017

Harriet Shing, Member for Eastern Victoria Region today encouraged the Gippsland community to pause on ANZAC Day and give thought to all those affected by war and conflict.

Details for local services can be found on www.anzaccentenary.vic.gov.au/anzac-day, giving locals an opportunity come together and show their respect for our veterans, past and present.

Details about local commemorations and how to get there via public transport are available on the ANZAC Day 2017 online portal.

Details of local free dawn service bus shuttles and inquiries can be made by visiting http://ptv.vic.gov.au/anzac-day-2016/ptv-free-dawn-service-bus-shuttle, or calling 1800 800 007.  Bookings for bus shuttles are essential.

Ms Shing also encouraged local organisations, schools or community groups holding public events to register their local activity on the website, to ensure more residents can attend and pay their respects.

With more than 200 services across the state, an interactive map will give an up-to-date guide of local commemorative activities.

The online portal also includes information about trading restrictions and holding a sporting event on ANZAC Day.

Community groups and local governments can access information to help plan, promote and deliver a local ANZAC Day service.

Quotes attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Harriet Shing:

ANZAC Day is a day to commemorate those who have served and to reflect on their sacrifices – it is also a day to remember the importance of ongoing support and care for all veterans whose lives are, in so many ways, forever changed.”

“The online portal is an important way more Gippslanders to access information about local events that honour our servicemen and women, and share their stories.”

“I encourage all local community groups to promote their own services and commemorative activities and plans ahead of ANZAC Day.”
