DITCHING THE DREADED DOUBLE-DROP OFF IN WARRAGUL

Families living in Warragul and surrounds will soon be able to ditch the dreaded ‘double-drop off’ as the Andrews Labor Government gets on with building kindergartens at primary schools across the state.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today visited the site of the new Warragul Primary School Early Learning Centre for a site tour of the new $3.2 million facility.

The new centre includes two rooms for three and four-year-old kindergarten, two maternal and child health service rooms, and meeting spaces for community use, and a lounge waiting area.

The Andrews Labor Government provided $650,000 to Baw Baw Shire Council towards the new centre through a Children’s Facilities Capital Program grant.

The new centre is located next door to Warragul Primary School and is due to open in mid-2020.

Every new Victorian primary school being built from 2021 will have a kindergarten on-site or next door, reducing the burden on parents and helping to build the Education State.

All 10 primary schools set to open in 2021, and all six opening in 2022, will have a kindergarten either on site or next door.

This is part of the Labor Government’s $5 billion commitment to provide access to a full 15 hours of subsidised three-year-old kinder to every Victorian child over the next decade, with the rollout beginning in 2020.

Quotes attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing

“Making Victoria the Education State starts with the early years – that’s why it’s great to see a co-located kinder and primary school in Warragul.”

“We’re already making sure Victorian kids get an extra year of kinder – and now we’re taking action so that the school drop-off is just that little bit easier for parents”

“This means children living in and near Warragul will not only get the best start to life at kinder, they’ll also get the most out of their primary education at a great local school.”
