APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR THE JOAN KIRNER YOUNG AND EMERGING WOMEN LEADERS PROGRAM

Tuesday, 29th May 2017

Harriet Shing, Member for Eastern Victoria Region has called upon women aged 18-40 from all over Gippsland to apply for the new Joan Kirner Young and Emerging Women Leaders Program (Joan Kirner Program).

As Victoria’s first and only female premier, Joan Kirner’s legacy is characterised by her commitment to promoting and mentoring talented women.

In partnership with Leadership Victoria, the Joan Kirner Program will award scholarships to 25 of Victoria’s outstanding young and rising female leaders.

Recipients of the scholarship will have access to a comprehensive program including formal training, peer learning, exposure to female role models, networking, mentoring and opportunities to shadow executive leaders.

The program supports women in areas Joan cared deeply about, including:
• Education
• Environment
• Women’s Health
• Supporting Aboriginal women’s leadership
• Supporting culturally diverse leaders
This exciting new initiative has been established in response to findings from Safe and Strong – A Victorian Gender Equality Strategy which identified the need to support women into leadership positions, to enable a pipeline of new leaders and to address the lack of visible female role models.

The Andrews Labor Government is calling on Victorian women aged 18-40 to apply for this opportunity to progress as influential leaders in their communities.

Applications close on Monday, 3rd July.
