BOOSTING EMPLOYABILITY IN GIPPSLAND

Monday, 6 April 2020

Gippsland has its first graduates of a new program backed by the Andrews Labor Government aimed at setting employees up with skills that can be taken to any job.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing MP today sent her congratulations to 20 people from local industry, government and the community who have completed the first Gippsland Micro-credentialing of Enterprise Skills Program, an initiative delivered by the Latrobe Valley Authority (LVA).

Enterprise skills are generic skills that are transferrable across different jobs and industries. These include communication, problem-solving, decision-making, strategic thinking and teamwork.

Many employers now recognise these skills as core abilities to have in the workplace, in addition to any required technical skills.

In partnership with the University of Melbourne, local industry and education providers, the LVA has rolled out this program specifically designed for Gippsland, with communication and collaborative problem-solving identified as the most sought-after enterprise skills.

The first group of 20 participants to complete the Program includes people from several employers including Latrobe Regional Hospital, TAFE Gippsland, and ArcBlue Consulting.

Participants are required to complete a series of online assessments to earn a digital enterprise skills profile from the University of Melbourne.

Registrations are now open for the second program, which will commence on Monday 20 April and is free to undertake.
